Now residing in New York (a sad departure it was) this large French Bulldog oil portrait was a treat to paint. I like to focus not only on likeness during the creation of a pet portrait, but also interest of brush stroke. I feel that producing an almost geometric shape when applying paint, allows the portrait to stand alone as a piece of art, provoking aesthetic intrigue from the viewer, whether they are a dog fan or not.
