This painting is a portrait set within a real landscape, created from direct observation of both the place and the people portrayed. My intention was not to place the figures into nature as a backdrop, but to allow them to exist naturally within it — as if they have always belonged to this environment. The challenge and the joy of this work was to integrate real, living portraits into an existing landscape so that figures and nature breathe together.
