I couldn't resist this play on words! I find giraffes such gentle, peaceful animals and that's what I wanted to capture about them in this painting with its slightly romantic twist. They have the most amazingly soulful eyes and this is where I always start on an animal portrait. With softly layered strokes I then build up texture and tone.
