'Self portrait in the window seat' by MartinD Alfreton
Close up self portrait study in bright sunlight through a venetian blind. Occasionally I do a portrait through intensive real life inspection, partly to challenge my observational skills. As usual for me the main attraction of this particular image was the strong contrasting light conditions. Strangely the vanes' shadows make the composition easier as they provide a ready framework on which to build the facial features. A successful portrait that has brought its fair share of critical acclaim.
