Artists Biography. Gerard's work is influenced by his experiences of travel so the imagery focuses on seascapes, hotel facades, restaurants, yachts, marinas, cars(including classic cars/racing cars). Gerard is particularly interested in reflections in windows and this is a pictorial device that underpins and unites all of his work. Gerard has painted a wide range of subject matter from the seascape, landscape, portrait, cinema, Shakespeare, ballet etc and in a variety of styles from abstract to photo real Gerard studied for his Master's degree at the University of Northumbria but lived in Cambridgeshire for a number of years and frequently travelled to London and Europe and this has been central to the development of his work. Most paintings are acrylic on canvas which combines the spontaneity of watercolour with the sturdiness of oil paint. Acrylic dries fairly quickly so that Gerard can generate an immediacy within the work as it progresses. So the paintings retain the element of freshness that Gerard is always trying to capture. These technical experiences have enabled Gerard to participate in demonstration classes for magazines, books, workshops etc. Gerard has also shown widely across the U.K. but mostly across the South and London galleries.
