Adam Full Time Professional

Art has always been a part of my life, I studied Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University and after graduating I started working in an art gallery nearby. That is ultimately what helped define me as an artist. Seeing how the artists worked, what inspired and drove them, studying their techniques really made me look at my own practice and examine what I did with my own work. Something I have always strived for is the mix of old and new; using spray paint and oils to connect the two, mixing classical nudes with tattoos and urban art, using traditional techniques to explore contemporary sub cultures like pin-up and burlesque, I mix and blend all these to create something that is truly my own. My work has always focussed on the female form, beginning with life drawing classes at college, going through to my own paintings hanging on gallery walls. It has always fascinated me how someone can tell such a personal story, how a model and an artist together can create a narrative with a painting and how with a simple tilt of the head or a set of the shoulders creates an entirely new mood. In my own practice I try to tell my own stories of loneliness, longing and hope. Through the figures I paint I try to capture all these moods, the conflicting and complimentary, and somehow find my own way through them. What I am really painting is myself; I strive to understand who I am, what I am looking for and what I have. I paint to find her and I paint to find myself.
